Il 31 marzo alla Philarmonie di Lussemburgo grande evento musicale con il concerto di Dianne Reeves, cantante di jazz americana che durante la sua fulgida carriera ha ricevuto fra l'altro cinque Grammy Awards per il miglior album vocale jazz e un dottorato onorario in musica. Si esibirà accompagnata dalla sua band formata da John Beasley, Romero Lubambo, Reuben Rogers e Terreon Gully. Fattitaliani l'ha intervistata.
(English version below). Dianne, durante la tua carriera quali principi hai sempre tenuto a mente?
Che si deve essere sempre sinceri nella propria arte. E nella propria verità la verità individuale, autentica.
Accade facilmente nel campo della musica?
Sì, è molto facile nella musica, per quanto mi riguarda: perché faccio delle scelte in base al modo in cui vedo, sento e vivo il mondo.
Come coltivi il tuo rapporto con il pubblico e i tuoi fan?
Beh, sono sempre stata una persona aperta, sai, all'intuizione e ai sentimenti. E quindi credo di guardare alla musica più come a un'esperienza da anima a anima che altro. E così mi sono aperta per poter sentire il mio pubblico, e mi apro anche in modo che loro possano sentirmi e permettere un bellissimo scambio.
Suppongo che durante i tuoi concerti, queste relazioni con il tuo pubblico si rafforzino...
Oh, assolutamente! Perché il mio è un bisogno di comunicare; così, quando questa comunicazione è forte, si crea una magia.
Cosa speri che provi il tuo pubblico quando sente la tua voce e le tue canzoni?
Bene, spero che sentano una sorta di calore, onestà e spero davvero che provino la tenerezza e l'amore che percepisco nel cuore, quello che ho avuto, che provo per me stessa, che possano davvero avvertire quello che cerco di dare alle persone.
Hai dei punti di riferimento nella musica? Alcuni esempi che hai voluto seguire come esempio nella tua carriera?
Cerco di continuare ad evolvermi e svilupparmi in base a come è la mia vita più di ogni altra cosa, e sono ispirata dai musicisti che sono nella mia band. Ognuno ha il proprio modo di esprimersi. E in questo modo per loro è molto più stimolante e libero fare parte di ciò che sta accadendo nel concerto. È importante. Cerco sempre di continuare a migliorarmi e andare avanti.
Fattitaliani è un magazine web. Qual è il tuo rapporto personale con internet e i social network?
È una dimensione interessante, mi piace. È solo che non so come funziona davvero. Guardo i diversi tipi di social media, tutti vogliono qualcosa di diverso. Faccio del mio meglio per stare al passo ma sai, non è la mia epoca, ma ci sto lavorando e spero di diventare più brava.
Forse internet potrebbe essere utile anche ai giovani, per esempio, per scoprire nuovi tipi e generi musicali, come la tua, per esempio. Perché a volte alcuni tipi di musica sono per un pubblico ristretto, ma internet può permettere l'accesso a un pubblico più vasto.
Questa è la cosa che amo, dà un accesso globale. Sai, prima le persone andavano in un negozio di musica per scoprire quello che ora è disponibile in rete: adesso non solo puoi vedere cosa stanno facendo, ma puoi provare cosa stanno facendo. E così ti ritrovi ad ascoltare artisti di tutto il mondo.
Quale canzone potrebbe essere la colonna sonora della tua vita?
Ci devo pensare: amo così tante canzoni per motivi diversi. Ma non ho una risposta. Posso dire solo la buona musica. Cerco davvero di non concepire la musica in termini di genere, perché questo le metterebbe un recinto attorno. Ma se ascolto una canzone che mi colpisce davvero, allora voglio ascoltarla. E voglio sentirla ancora e ancora. E non mi interessa chi la incide. È solo questo che mi piace: potrebbe essere una canzone jazz, una canzone country. Potrebbe essere qualsiasi cosa, ma la cosa più importante è che mi piaccia.
Oggi (l'8 marzo, ndr) è la Giornata Internazionale della Donna. Che desiderio hai per le donne del mondo?
Oh, che possano continuare a esprimere chi sono in tutta la loro forza, come l'amore e il divertimento. Perché le donne sono formidabili; le donne sono necessarie per l'equilibrio di questo mondo. Mi auguro che continuino ad andare avanti, istruirsi ed essere un elemento di equilibrio nel mondo.
Il 31 marzo canterai alla Philarmonie di Lussemburgo. Noti differenze tra il pubblico americano e quello europeo?
Bene, l'unica differenza è nel fatto che in quanto americana la mia cultura è americana. Per il resto non penso si possano fare paragoni: vengo in Europa, in tutta Europa, da moltissimi anni e mi diverto perché aiuta a rafforzare la mia convinzione che la musica è al di là della lingua. È davvero qualcosa che sento e nel corso degli anni questa consapevolezza mi ha aiutato a sviluppare quella parte di me stessa in grado di comunicare attraverso la musica. Mi piacciono tutti i pubblici, sono tutti diversi e mi sento molto a mio agio nel trovarmi in mezzo a queste differenze. Giovanni Zambito.

Dianne, during your career what principles have you always kept in mind?
That you must always be truthful in your art. And in your truth, your individual, authentic truth.
And that is it so simple and evident in the in the field of music?
Yeah, it's very evident in the music because I make choices based on the way that I see and feel and experience the world.
How do you cultivate your relationship with the audience and your fans?
Well, I have always been a person that is open to, you know, intuition and feel. And so I believe I look at music as more of a soul to soul experience than anything. And so I opened myself to be able to feel my audience, and I also open myself so that they can feel me and that we have this beautiful exchange.
I suppose that during your concerts, this relationship with your public becomes stronger...
Oh, absolutely, absolutely. Because mine was one of the desire to communicate. And so when that communication is strong, it's a magic.
What do you hope your audience will feel when they hear your voice and your songs?
Well, I hope that they feel a kind of warmth, honesty, and I really hope that they feel the compassion and love that I have in my heart, that I had, that I feel for myself, that I want to give what I feel to people.
Have you got role models, in music? Some examples you wanted to follow as examples in your career?
I try to continue to evolve and develop based on the way my life is more than anything, and I'm inspired by the musicians that are in my band. And everybody has their own way of expression. And that way is very open and free for them to be a part of what's happening in the concert. So that part is important. But I'm always trying to keep finding me and moving forward.
I write for an Italian website. So, what is your personal relationship with the internet, social network, etc?
Well, that's an interesting thing. Because I like it. I just don't know how to really work. You know, I don't know how the inner, the social media and all of that I think is really, really great. I look at the different types of social media, they all want something different. I try my best to stay up but you know, it's not my era but I'm working on it and I hope that it gets stronger and better.
The internet could also be useful for young people, for example, to discover new types and kinds of music, like yours, for example. Because sometimes some kinds of music are for a narrow public, but maybe the internet can give access to a wider public.
That's the thing that I love, it gives Global Access. You know, now, people that you might have had to long before this go into a music store to find now you actually not only get to see what they're doing, you get to experience what they're doing. And so you find yourself hearing artists from all over the world.
What song could be the soundtrack of your life?
What song? We have to come back to that question. I have to think of that. Because I love so many songs for different reasons. But I think... I don't know. I don't know the answer to that... just good music. I really try not to experience music in terms of genre, because that puts a fence around it. But if I hear a song that just really gets me, then I want to hear it. And I want to hear it over and over again. And I don't care who puts it out. I just, that's what I like, you know, It could be a jazz song, country song. It could be anything, but if it's something that I like, that's the most important thing.
Today, you know, is International Women's Day (8th of March). What wish do you have for the women of the world?
Oh, that they continue to express who they are in all strength, like love and enjoy. Because women are formidable. Women are necessary for the balance of this world. And that women continue to reach forward educate themselves, and be a balance in the world.
On the 31th of March you will sing at the Philarmonie in Luxembourg. Do you notice any differences between the American and European audiences?
Well, I think there would be a difference in that, as an American, this is my culture. But the only thing is like, You can't compare because I've been coming to Europe, all over Europe for many, many years. And I enjoy it because it helps strengthen, my awareness, that music is beyond language. It is really something that you feel and it has helped me to develop that part of myself over the years to really be able to communicate through music to people. So I enjoy all the audiences, they're all different and I feel very comfortable in being in those differences. Giovanni Zambito.
