Oggi abbiamo avuto la splendida opportunità di imbatterci in un progetto che non conoscevamo. Si tratta del “Photography as a Tool to Build Bridge” rivolto agli studenti universitari di vari paesi e svoltosi in questi giorni a Eskişehir; ne hanno parlato con noi alcuni partecipanti appena rientrati nel nostro Paese.

What was the project about?
Federica: The project brought together
participants aged 18-30, from Turkey, hosting country, Germany, Greece,
Denmark, Sweden, and Italy to reflect and deal with the situation of political
refugees through creative workshops- often proposed by the participants
themselves, many of whom professional photographers- pivoting on the
instrument of photography. The activities are structured basing on concepts of
non-formal and informal education, in few words far from lectures and passive
learning, learning through action, free encounter and exchange with other
people without hierarchies, grades, judgments.
– What
impressed you the most during the project?
Federica: People for sure, their faces on the first day, their
creativity during the activities and their energy that in these situations is
extraordinarily contagious and then each of them with a different story in
which to get lost and mirror themselves to understand how rich and complex the
human soul is as the contemporary world. When I say stories, I am referring both
to the interior, that is the personal experiences of each of my fellow
travellers, and to the very rich cultural context in which these stories took
place, many participants belong to the second generation of migrants in the
country where they live. The conversations I had with each of them and the
originality of some workshops really allowed me to touch the reality of the
refugee experience, physically and spiritually and this experience can only
make me a richer person, sensitive and a more aware citizen.
–Siete riusciti a socializzare creando
con il vostro gruppo di lavoro i presupposti per nuove amicizie?–
Camilla: Il gruppo di partecipanti al progetto
“Photography as a tool to build bridge” era composto da diversi giovani con
diversi background e storie personali. Nonostante questo, e anzi soprattutto
grazie a questo, si è fin da subito creata un atmosfera accogliente e aperta
alle differenze di ognuno. Il gruppo ha sviluppato bellissime dinamiche che
sono state in grado di far sentire ognuno accettato e a proprio agio, nonché
libero di esprimersi liberamente. Questo ha permesso a tutti di contribuire con
le loro conoscenze e creatività, abbiamo passato un sacco di tempo insieme, tra
divertimento e conversazioni profonde. Ho visto diverse amicizie nascere in
questo progetto, e sono convinta che siano destinate a durare. Ognuno di noi
spera di incontrare gli altri partecipanti in qualche altro progetto o nei
rispettivi paesi! Personalmente ho amato spendere del tempo con gli altri
partecipanti, ho conosciuto persone simili a me, che sono state capaci di
ispirarmi a mettermi in gioco e a seguire i miei sogni.

Were you able to socialize by creating the conditions for new friendships with
your work group?
Camilla: The group of people that participated
in the project “Photography as a tool to build bridge” was composed by several
members with different stories and backgrounds. Despite this, or rather because
of this, we were able to create an amazing atmosphere, welcoming and open to
each other’s differences. The group was able to develop great dynamics that
made everyone feel accepted, comfortable and free to express themselves in the
way that they considered best. Thanks to this, everyone could give
contributions to the project with their creativity, knowledge and skills. We
spent a lot of time together, between laughs, fun and serious conversations, I
saw several friendships being born and growing throughout the days, and I know
that they will last longer than the few days we got to spend together. Everyone
of us hopes that they will soon meet the other participants in other projects
or countries! Personally I loved spending time with these people, I met
like-minded people that inspired me to put myself out there and follow my
dreams.
–Come era organizzata una giornata tipo
in un Erasmus+ Youth Exchange Project?
Camilla: L’organizzazione del progetto
“Photography as a tool to build bridge” è stata bilanciata e ben strutturata,
con un ottima ripartizione tra tempo libero e lavoro. La mattina la colazione
era sempre tra le 8.30 e le 9.30, poco dopo iniziavano i laboratori e le
attività della mattina, sempre precedute da un energizer o da lavori di
team-building per creare coesione nel gruppo e portare il focus di tutti sul
tema del progetto. Alle 13 veniva servito il pranzo, durante il quale tutti i
partecipanti avevano tempo per riposarsi, chiacchierare o discutere dei
progetti e dei workshop assegnati ai vari national teams. Le attività del
pomeriggio iniziavano solitamente tra le 3 e le 4, per finire alle 7, giusto in
tempo per la cena. Durante le pause tra le attività ognuno era libero di
organizzare il proprio tempo libero. In questi momenti molti di noi passavano
del tempo insieme o riposavano, e in diverse occasioni siamo riusciti ad
organizzare piccole gite nel centro della città. Data la coesione e buon lavoro
del gruppo spesso i diversi team erano liberi di lavorare in autonomia, per poi
presentare il lavoro finito entro la scadenza. La sera sono state organizzate
diverse serate di intrattenimento e condivisione, come per esempio le cultural
nights.

How was a typical day organized in the Erasmus+ Youth Exchange Project?
Camilla: The organization of the project
“Photography as a tool to build bridge” was well structured and balanced
between work and free time. In the morning breakfast was always served between
8.30 and 9.30, and around 10 the morning activities would start. Before the
workshops and laboratories we always made energizers or team-building
activities, in order to create cohesion in the group and bring everyone’s
attention on the main topic of the project. At 13 it was time for lunch, during
which the participants could rest, chat or discuss about the project or the
workshop assigned to the national teams. The afternoon activities would start
between 3 and 4, and they would end at 7, just in time for dinner. In the
breaks everyone could organize their free time as they wished. In these moments
we usually either rested or spent time together, and in several occasions we
managed to organize some trips to the city center, despite the huge number of
people. Due to the good work and cohesion of the group the different teams were
often free to work on their own and then present their work at the agreed time.
In the evening the organization planned different activities to bring people
together and share our cultures, such as the cultural nights.

Avevate a disposizione vitto e alloggio ne siete rimasti soddisfatti?–
Antonio: Il vitto e l’alloggio sono la
parte migliore a parer mio dei progetti di scambi di giovani Erasmus+ in quanto
essendo inclusi nel budget del progetto permettono a una maggiore varietà di
persone di viaggiare. Nel nostro caso l’alloggio e le attività si sono svolte
in un comodo Hotel a 3 stelle, dove ci siamo trovati molto bene. Il cibo era
locale e un grande quantità e ci ha permesso di rimanere ampiamente
soddisfatti. L’ambiente è un punto importante per questa tipologia di
esperienze in quanto per un fluido svolgimento i partecipanti vogliono sentirsi
in un luogo sicuro e a proprio agio. Noi siamo rimasti pienamente soddisfatti:
la risoluzione di problemi da parte dello staff, i consigli e, in generale, gli
aiuti forniti da essi ci hanno permesso di soggiornare in un luogo
confortevole.

Did you have food and accommodation available? Were you satisfied with the
quality of them?-
Antonio: Food and accommodation are, in my
opinion, the best part of Erasmus+ youth exchange projects as being
included in the project budget allows for a greater variety of people to
travel. In our case, the accommodation and the activities took place in a
comfortable 3-star hotel, where we found ourselves very well. The food
was local and in large quantities and left us largely satisfied. The
environment is an important point for this type of experience as for a smooth
development the participants want to feel safe and at ease. We were fully
satisfied: the staff’s problem solving, advice and, in general, the help
provided by them allowed us to stay in a comfortable place.
– Tornando in Italia cosa porterete con
voi di più prezioso dell’esperienza appena conclusa?-
Leda: Credo che siano due le cose principali
che ognuno porterà con sé e che continuerà ad apprezzare anche dopo il ritorno.
La prima sono le amicizie e i legami creati. Durante il progetto tutti si sono
messi in gioco con sincerità e mentalità aperta e si sono creati legami che
continuano a essere nutriti anche ora. Si sono create conoscenze fra persone
con background molto diversi che stanno accrescendo personalmente ognuno di
noi. La seconda sono le conoscenze e la capacità per esprimere meglio le nostre
idee sul tema principale del progetto. Grazie agli organizzatori e facilitatori
siamo stati spronati ad usare le nostre abilità per esprimere noi stessi e la
situazione del nostro paese riguardo al tema dei rifugiati. Ci hanno dato
materiali e metodi creativi per comunicare efficacemente le nostre visioni e
condividerle con gli altri.

Returning to Italy, what will you take with you that is more precious than the
experience you just ended?-
Leda: I think there are two main things that everyone will
bring with them and that they will continue to appreciate even after the return
to their countries. The first is the friendships and bonds created. During the
project everyone got involved with sincerity and an open mind and bonds were
created that will continue to be nourished even now. Acquaintances have been
created between people with very different backgrounds that is helping us and
our personal growth. The second is the knowledge and ability to best express
our ideas on the main theme of the project. Thanks to the organizers and
facilitators we were encouraged to use our skills to express ourselves and the
situation of our country regarding the issue of refugees. They have given us
creative materials and methods to effectively communicate our visions and share
them with others.
– Durante il tempo libero avrete
sicuramente visitato Eskişehir, cosa avete apprezzato maggiormente della città?–
Leda: Eskişehir è una città pulita e molto
accogliente per gli studenti. È più tranquilla delle grandi città metropolitane
turche ma risponde a tutte le esigenze di chi ha partecipato al progetto.
La zona di Odunpazarı, più storica e
ricca d’arte, grazie anche alla presenza di musei come quello d’arte moderna
OMM, era perfetta per chi volesse passare una giornata all’insegna della
cultura.
Il centro è ricco di negozi e locali
dove poter fare acquisti e provare prodotti locali.
La sera era facile spostarsi e
incontrarsi anche con studenti universitari del posto, favorendo così lo
scambio culturale e una conoscenza più profonda della cultura e società del
paese ospitante.
Pur essendo una grande città è ricca di
scorci naturali, essenziali per fare passeggiate all’aria aperta e ricaricarsi
di energia.
-During
your free time you have surely visited Eskisehir, what did you like the most
about the city?-
Leda: Eskişehir is a clean and very
welcoming city for students. It is quieter than the large Turkish subways but
meets all the needs of those who participated in the project. The Odunpazarı
area, more historic and rich in art, thanks also to the presence of museums
such as the OMM modern art museum, was perfect for those wishing to spend a day
dedicated to culture. The center is full of shops and clubs where you can shop
and try local products. In the evening it was easy to move around and even meet
local university students, thus promoting cultural exchange and a deeper
knowledge of the culture and society of the host country. Despite being a large
city, it is full of natural views, essentials for taking walks in the open air
and recharging your batteries.
Se vi proponessero di ripetere
un’esperienza analoga accettereste?-
Lorenzo: Senza ombra di dubbio, il progetto “Photograpy as a tool
to build bridge” era accompagnato da un team di organizzatori e facilitatori
altamente competenti e preparati. Si sono dimostrati sempre disponibili a
qualsiasi problematica e incertezza ed hanno arricchito questa settimana con
numerosissime attività, cercando di coinvolgere i partecipanti in ognuna di
esse con metodi di formazione non-formali e sempre creativi e interessanti. Il
progetto, inoltre, risultava molto interessante e ha stimolato il senso
artistico e creativo di ognuno di noi. Tornerei senza nessuna esitazione ad un
progetto gestito da questa organizzazione.
– Would you accept to do a
similar experience in the future?
Lorenzo: Absolutely, “Photography as a tool to build bridge” was a
project managed by a high-skilled and well-trained organizators and
facilitators. They have always been avaible to solve every controversy and
doubts and they have enriched all this week with lots of involving, creative,
stimulating and enjoying activities, each one of them characterized by a
non-formal learning structure. The project itself was also very interesting and
stimulating for the creativity of each participant. I would absolutely love to
come back to a project managed by this organization.
– Se
un giovane vi chiedesse un consiglio su questa tipologia di Erasmus lo
indirizzereste verso questa proposta?-
Lorenzo: Assolutamente. Quando si comincia a intraprendere questi
progetti può capitare di imbattersi in equipe non ben organizzate che
potrebbero non garantire una esperienza strutturata al meglio ma, anzi,
piuttosto disorganizzata. Un’organizzazione come quella che ha ospitato questo
progetto ha senza dubbio tutte le carte in regola per essere un’ottima prima
esperienza e per offrire un bellissimo esempio di quello che gli Erasmus+ Youth
Project Exchanges sono in grado di garantire. Per alcuni dei partecipanti
questa era effettivamente la prima esperienza e senz’altro il loro feedback è
stato positivo visto che hanno già in mente di fare richiesta per altri
progetti simili.
– Would
you suggest to an interested in Erasmus+ Projects younger this kind of project?
Lorenzo: Without any hesitation. When you start these projects you can
face some bad structured teams that could not guarantee a well-organized
experience. This team is the perfect starter for a person interested in
Erasmus+ Youth Exchange projects because it can provide the perfect example of
how these kinds of projects should be held, managed and facilitated. For some
participants this was actual their first experience and I can tell you they are
already applying for the next project since the wonderful experience they had
with this organisation.

arricchito questa settimana con numerosissime attività, cercando di coinvolgere
i partecipanti in ognuna di esse con metodi di formazione non-formali e sempre
creativi e interessanti. Il progetto, inoltre, risultava molto interessante e
ha stimolato il senso artistico e creativo di ognuno di noi. Tornerei senza
nessuna esitazione ad un progetto gestito da questa organizzazione.

partecipanti questa era effettivamente la prima esperienza e senz’altro il loro
feedback è stato positivo visto che hanno già in mente di fare richiesta per
altri progetti simili.
– Would you suggest to an interested in
Erasmus+ Projects younger this kind of project?
Lorenzo: Without any hesitation. When you start
these projects you can face some bad structured teams that could not guarantee
a well-organized experience. This team is the perfect starter for a person
interested in Erasmus+ Youth Exchange projects because it can provide the
perfect example of how these kinds of projects should be held, managed and
facilitated. For some participants this was actual their first experience and I
can tell you they are already applying for the next project since the wonderful
experience they had with this organisation.
