IIC Londra, lunedì 12 marzo "I luoghi del cinema italiano" con Oscar Iarussi e Adrian Wootton

Italy - the cradle of cinema neorealism, featuring actors taken off the streets – is also a remarkable setting for Hollywood productions.
One need only remember King Vidor’s “War and Peace” filmed in Piedmont, Mel Gibson’s “The Passion of the Christ” in Basilicata, and Ron Howard’s recent “Inferno” in Florence. Textures, places, faces, and production values have helped Italian cinema inspire generations of filmmakers. Today Italy has resumed winning awards and sparking debates with its “Great Beauty” (to cite Paolo Sorrentino’s recent masterpiece) – a multi-faceted, contradictory, unconventional beauty that is depicted in the story of ten “cinema cities”: Turin, with its museum; Milan, both bourgeois and proletarian; decadent, party-loving Venice; Bologna and its film archive; Florence’s with its long view on history; the eternal calm chaos of Rome; the diversity of Naples, ranging from Totò to Gomorra; aristocratic, heavenly Palermo; Bari, gateway of immigration (Gianni Amelio’s “Lamerica”); and Matera, European capital of culture for 2019.

Oscar Iarussi is a film critic and head of the cultural section of the “Gazzetta del Mezzogiorno”, one of Southern Italy’s most important newspapers. He has been President of the Apulia Film Commission and collaborated with Film Festivals in Edinburgh e Montreal. He is also a member of the Venice International Film Festival expert committee.

Adrian Wootton is the Chief Executive of Film London and the British Film Commission. Prior to becoming the Chief Executive of Film London in 2003, Adrian was Acting Director of the British Film Institute (BFI), in addition to having been the Director of the London Film Festival (LFF), the National Film Theatre (NFT), Head of BFI Exhibition and Director of the crime and mystery film festival, Crime Scene. He is a Programme Advisor to the BFI London Film Festival, Venice Film Festival and Noir in Fest, Milan. He regularly broadcasts and reviews films for Radio 4 and contributes articles to various newspapers and magazines, including The Guardian and Sight & Sound.
