Following an inspiring comparative exploration of the Italian operatic scene in the late nineteenth century and in the first half of the twentieth, “Risorgimento strumentale” (Instrumental Renaissance) is a comprehensive series devoted to the valiant composers who succeeded in reinvigorating Italian instrumental music in the same period by rediscovering the diverse and luxuriant heritage of Italian pre-Romantic music and merging it with Romantic innovations, avant-garde research and modern instrumental technique.

The fascinating journey in the instrumental music written by the Italian authors born in the second half of the nineteenth century, continues with a concert thoroughly focused on the challenging genre of the violin and piano sonata.
A delicate jewel composed by one of the most talented Italian disciples of German Romanticism (Giuseppe Martucci), is combined with two cornerstones in the chamber music created by the Generazione dell’Ottanta (Generation of the 1880s).
Moreover, following the operatic event on “Assassinio nella Cattedrale”, Pizzetti’s instrumental masterpiece gives the opportunity to further celebrate the fiftieth anniversary of the composer’s death by showing another main aspect of his versatile genius.Programme
